Simple Woman's Daybook #7

FOR TODAY...February 2, 2009

Outside my window...It's dark! The sun is making its ascent over the horizon, peeking through the beautiful pine tree forests around us. It promises to be another warm winter day, highs in the upper 50s and upper 60s this week. I'm so glad I made some winter comfort food the last two weeks, because it would be out of place this week!

I am thinking...about the movie "Fireproof". I had really wanted to see it, but we could not afford to purchase it right now. I know watching a movie is no big deal, and I did not pray about it! However, the Lord blessed me by letting me see it! A kind lady in our church happened to have it with her at church last night and offered to loan it to me. She had already seen it! The Lord is so good to me!
I'm also thinking about how blessed I am to have a husband who is truly my hero.

I am thankful for...God's provision for the month of January! I cannot believe that February is already here.

From the learning rooms...we are busy, as usual. We are past 100 days of school! I can't believe it! We are definitely on the downhill side of the school year.

From the kitchen...Homemade Bean burritos, stay-a-bed stew, Italian Noodle Skillet, homemade pizza, and Lasagna are on the menu for the week. I'm still trying to decide about dessert...

I am wearing...my pj's and my warm, fluffy robe! We are having a chilly start to the day.

I am creating...this blog post. :) And that's about it, right now!

I am going...to Ohio and Illinois this month.


I am reading...still finishing up a devotional book and the book Teachers of Good Things. I hope to finish these soon and begin some new books.

I am hoping...I get to meet Kristy, a lady I met through the blogging world and to see Terry's cousin, Misty, during our trip up north! :)

I am hearing...my space heater blowing and my typing.

Around the house...peace and quiet and a little left over chaos from a busy Sunday!

One of my favorite things...watching Columbo on DVD. Yes, I own the entire series on DVD. What can I can I say? I love Peter Falk. Now you know. Please don't hold it against me. :)

A few plans for the rest of the week: Grocery shopping, homeschooling, planning for our trip, attending church.

FOR TODAY...January 26, 2009

Outside My Window...It is dark. The clouds are blocking what little of the sun that has risen this morning.

I am thinking...about the ice that may be coming our way tomorrow.

I am thankful for...the fact that I am off of my prescription medication for my shoulder!

From the learning rooms...plans are ready for a new week in school. We will be writing book reports and continuing our State notebook in fourth grade. In first grade will be continuing in phonics, reading, and arithmetic as usual. We are needing to finish some art projects in both grades.

From the kitchen...I am planning the menu for this week as well as a grocery list.

I am wearing...denim culottes, a salmon colored shirt, and my athletic shoes. (I just finished my kickboxing workout.)

I am creating...computer graphics for my WebTech University Paint Shop Pro 201 class. I finish it up this week!! :)

I am going...to actually go grocery shopping myself this week! I had planned to go last week, but my shoulder hurt so badly at the end of the day, that I couldn't go. My wonderful husband was able to do it for me. What a blessing!

I am reading...my Bible and finishing up two other books.

I am hoping...to be able to do some blogging this week!

I am hearing...the heater running and my own typing.

Around the house...is so very clean!!!! My husband and children pitched in this past weekend and we got the house looking spotless! My laundry is caught up and most of the clutter is removed. I used last Monday as a day off of school and cleaned out some closets and reorganized some cabinets. It feels so good!

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Finishing my PSP 201 class, cooking, homeschooling, blogging, finding out if we have a homeschool co-op in this area.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...my husband and his friend from Mattoon, Illinois, Thomas Butler.

Terry has been blessed to have many friends and Thomas would probably be the best. They have known each other since childhood and have remained close ever since. He has been there for Terry and me in our darkest days. He is a true friend. He and his family came to us the weekend of New Year's! It was such a blessing to see him, his wife, and his two girls. I hope to be blogging about it this week.

Simple Woman's Daybook #5

FOR TODAY... January 19, 2009

Outside my window...cloudy skies loom above, but that means neither rain nor snow, as Arkansas winters are often very drab. The temperature will be dropping steadily today. The weather will be cool most of the week. I am beginning to wonder if winter has bypassed us altogether, or if it merely making a late appearance this year.

I am thinking...about Psalm 51.

I am thankful for...my Saviour Who is so very patient with me!

From the learning rooms...we are beginning Arkansas state history this week in fourth grade! I am excited about this. I love my state and am eager to re-learn its history. I took it in 8th grade, which was, uh-hem, just a few years ago. ;)

From the kitchen...Taco Soup, Chili, and perhaps some cookies this week!

I am wearing...a red long sleeve shirt, brown corduroy skirt, and my New Balance tennis shoes from my walk.

I am creating...lesson plans, my menu and grocery list.

I am going...to venture to the store this week, the first time since my shoulder injury.

I am reading...my Bible, and the book Teachers of Good Things by Francie Taylor

I am hoping...to be able to get some housework done today.

I am learning...to be more selfless and flexible.

I am hearing...my precious baby laughing and babbling. If only I had an interpreter for most of it! :)

Around the house...everything needs a good cleaning! Being injured has really hampered my housework routine. I may even take a day off of school to get things back in order.

One of my favorite things...eating buttery popcorn!

A few plans for the rest of the week: To accomplish the mundane tasks that have piled up. To spend some quality time with my children reading, playing, and laughing. To continue in my 31 Days of Proverbs 31. To work on not stressing when life's pressures increase.

Two precious girls enjoying their Christmas present! I am thankful for the three girls God has given me to raise to be godly women. The Lord truly has a sense of humor as I am not a seamstress or a great cook or an expert on womanhood, yet He gave me three girls! He knew what He was doing, however. These girls drive me to my knees as I seek His help in teaching and training them. It is quite clear that on my own, I simply cannot do it!

FOR TODAY... January 5, 2009

Outside My Window...c-c-c-cold rain falling...maybe ice later! Brrr. Bring on the hot cocoa!!

I am thinking...about the Bible studies I will be working through this year. I am looking forward to finishing up the study on God's Sovereignty, and beginning a new one from Regular Baptist Press. I'm having a hard time picking just one!

I am thankful for...our good friends, the Butlers', visiting us this past weekend; for the record attendance we had at church yesterday (even though I had to be home with a sick child), and for the dear lady who trusted Christ as her savior last night after church. What a blessing to have a birds' eye view of God's miraculous work!

From the learning rooms...homeschooling resumes, but we are easing back into it. Mitchell resumes on Wednesday, and Lauren is doing half days this week.

From the kitchen...right now, it's empty. I buy groceries on Mondays...but you probably gathered that since every Monday my pantry is bare! I am making my menu today and buying groceries.

I am creating...new computer graphics with my Paint Shop Pro X2 program.

I am going...to take down Christmas decorations today. :(

I am reading...my Bible through using a new schedule this year. I'm also reading some devotional books, and a book of poems that a friend of mine wrote! :)

I am hoping...to see the Lord work in my life this year. I see many areas that need growth and improvement.

I am hearing...the pitter-patter of rain on the roof.

Around the house...everyone is subdued from two weeks of being out of routine. Laci is running a fever and sleeping a lot. Things are abnormally quiet!

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Homeschooling, housework, and lots of time cuddling with my children, enjoying the fact that we survived the Holidays!

Jeremy, Amanda, Josiah, Jonathan and Judson Tyler are Missionaries to Brazil.
I've known Amanda since I was fifteen. We met at summer church camp and have kept in touch for fifteen years now! She and her family were such a blessing to us when they were here on December 14th. They are getting close to leaving for Brazil!

I am thankful for men and ladies who are willing to go anywhere to serve the Lord, and I desire to be the same way.

FOR TODAY...December 29, 2008

Outside my window...beautiful sunshine; frosty grass, trees and roofs.

I am thinking...about the wonderful services we had at church yesterday, especially our evening service with surprise speaker, Dr. Don Green. What an honor to visit with him and his wife. He's been pastoring Parker Memorial Baptist Church for 54 years!

I am thankful for...the ways the Lord provides and meets needs before I even see that I have that need. It reminds me of Isaiah 65:24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

From the learning rooms...more silence! I have completed the grading that remained last Monday so our break is in full swing.

From the kitchen...empty cupboards. I must buy groceries today.

I am wearing...my pj's - it is so very cold!

I am creating...my New Year's resolution list! I love doing that every year, and I love checking off things from the previous year's list.

I am going...to make out our menu for the week, make a grocery list and buy groceries today.

I am reading...my Bible

I am hoping...that we have a good crowd for our Victory Service this coming Wednesday and that everyone enjoys playing the game Apples to Apples after the service! :)

I am hearing...my own typing.

Around the house...excitement about another week off of school!

One of my favorite things...Folger's French Vanilla Cappuccino mix with a dollop of marshmallow creme on top! Mm..Mm..good!:)

A few plans for the rest of the week: Getting things in place for school next week, shopping, planning the details for our New Year's Eve Victory Service at church, wrting thank you notes, buying something for my husband for our 11th wedding anniversary this Friday.

Simple Woman's Daybook #2

FOR TODAY ... December 22, 2008

Outside my window...the sun is shining brightly, highlighting the frost that covers everything. We had a very cold night last night, about 20 degrees! I am hoping that we will get enough freezes this winter to eliminate some mosquito larvae!

I am thinking...about how I love getting mail, comments, and email!!

I am thankful for...a husband who loves me enough to take care of me when I'm sick, to help me when I'm overwhelmed, to lead me when I'm stubborn and to forgive me when I come to my senses. ♥

From the learning rooms...the delightful sound of silence! We begin our two week Christmas break today, though I still have some grading to do.

From the kitchen...biscuits, blueberry muffins, and oatmeal crispies later! :)

I am wearing...a khaki skirt, a gray snowman sweatshirt and loafers.

I am creating...a clean house today! I finished up the homemade Christmas ornaments and gave them away at church last night. I think everyone liked them, but I didn't think about making something for those who do not have a Christmas tree! I'll have to do better next year.

I am going...to be celebrating the birth of our Lord this week!

I am reading...Mountain Born by Elizabeth Yates and Revelation from my King James Bible.

I am hoping...to purchase very soon the something that I've been saving up for! :)

I am hearing...the sound of "I Love Lucy" from the TV, the dishwasher running, and my central heat blowing. (Thank you, Lord, for heat today!!)

Around the house...clutter from the projects we've been working on.

One of my favorite things...Mary Engelbreit's artwork, especially her calendars!

A few plans for the rest of the week: Visiting some shut-ins tonight with Christmas baskets, Christmas shopping/wrapping tomorrow; Wednesday will be baking day for Christmas. I'm looking forward to celebrating Christ's birth on Thursday! I'm so thankful that He was born to die for my sins.

Outside my window... The sun is glistening off of other's windows; some beautiful fall leaves dangle from the trees, and many, many more lie on the ground awaiting removal!

I am thinking...about trying to learn computer graphics!


I am thankful for...my brother and his family and my sister. They are all coming to visit next week!


From the learning rooms...clutter from the completed school day. We are winding up our Thanksgiving art projects.


From the kitchen...Busy Day Casserole.


I am wearing...a red-ish shirt and a black skirt. (Work clothes!)


I am creating...nothing now. I will be working on Christmas gifts for our church family very soon!


I am learning...not to worry or fear.

I am hoping...that I can have my house ready for company next week!


I am hearing...the dishwasher running. (Thank you, Lord, for appliances!)

This is my three year old, Leslie, and my nearly two year old, Laci, wearing my shoes! I love the way they are embracing one another. My prayer is that they will feel the same way toward one another in ten, no, make it twenty years!
